Suspended Programs Announcement from Executive Director, Maxwell Clark:

After a lengthy process of gathering the best information available from the CDC and State of Wisconsin, consulting experts in both health care and youth camping and evaluating all possible program alterations it is with a heavy heart that I share with you the YMCA of Greater Green Bay’s decision to suspend YMCA Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya’s summer camp programs (This includes all resident, trip and leadership programs) until 2021. This truly breaks our heart but please know that this decision is supported by myself, the camp staff, board of directors and executive leadership of the YMCA.

The decision to suspend the summer camp program was incredibly difficult, especially in the aftermath of our 2019 storm closure. However, after evaluating the guidance of camping professionals, the CDC, YUSA and American Camp Association we can only conclude that too little is known on how to promise, maintain and deliver a safe and meaningful camping experience for youth this summer.

Suspending the summer camp program does not mean we are closing however.  We are happy to be providing an alternative summer camp program, Summer Family Camps. This modified programing allows for parents, friends and families to attend 2 night programs at camp.  Summer Family Camp allows us to follow best COVID 19 prevention practices and offer amazing camp experiences.  We feel very confident that this modified program is the best program we can offer the community during the pandemic.

We know that you and your camper will have additional questions.  We have developed a few resources to assist your family. If you still have questions after reviewing the information we provide please call or email the camp office, we are happy to chat anytime.

Please take comfort in the strength of camp, we have a hopeful and wonderful future ahead. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” – Jeremiah 29:11.  We look forward to seeing you this year at Summer Family Camp and next year for Summer Camp 2021.

With sadness and sincere hopeful resilience,

Maxwell A. Clark
Executive Director of Camping Services
Greater Green Bay YMCA.
