Year Round Staff

Max - Executive Director of Camping Services

Years at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 4 Years

Hey there! I have been serving the YMCA Camping Community for over 15 years. Getting my start as a camper at YMCA Camp Jackson in Colorado, I developed a deep appreciation for the wilderness experience and camaraderie that camp provided me. I have a Bachelor's Degree in History and Political Science and a Master's Degree in business administration. I have always believed that relationships play a key role in a camper's experience and that resilience is built through challenging, safe, engaging programming. I live at Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya year-round with my wife and 2 young children, we can all be caught at our various family program weekends. My favorite thing about camp is that it provides kids with the opportunity to engage in outdoor wilderness experiences.

Jordan - Director of Operations

Years at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 2 Years

I have been working in YMCA Camping for 6 years. In that time I have gained experience as a camper, counselor, assistant director, and now, Program and Marketing Director. These experiences have been the most impactful and formative of my life. I have a achelor's Degree in Elementary Education that lends itself well to developing programming for camp and working closely with kids and families. As the Director of Program Development and Marketing at U-Nah-Li-Ya I ensure that every camper and guest has the opportunity to grow and gain just as much from camp as I have and continue to. My favorite thing about camp is that it's one of the few places in the world where people of all ages can come and enjoy being accepted for exactly who they are.

Kathy - Office Manager

Years at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 4 Years

I began my career working in education where I gained a wide variety of experience in organizational management and human resources. My two children grew up attending camp and I was able to watch them grow and flourish with each experience. During my time at U-Nah-Li-Ya I have been able to use my work experience to provide resources that support camp in achieving its mission of "Improving the World through Improving People" and allowing every kid to get the camp experience they deserve. My favorite part of camp is coming in every morning and seeing all of the kids smiling and happy.

Paul  - Property Manager

Time at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 1 Year

I was born and raised in Wisconsin about 30 miles from Camp Unahliya. As a child I had the opportunity to attend camp several times while in grade school. I thought it was a fantastic place back then, and never dreamed I’d be working here later on in life. I joined the Y’s Men club in 2018 and volunteered time to the camp at the work weekends. Earlier in 2019 I was hired on as the Property Manager. It’s more than a full time job with 32 plus buildings and structures to maintain. But it’s for the kids. And we here in facilities and property maintenance are a happy people, and we are here to help. When I see all the happy smiling kids it reminds me of my youth when I was here years ago.

Josh  - Facility Technician

Time at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 1 Year

Howdy friends! I grew up in the area surrounding Chute Pond and love everything about the outdoors. As the facility technician I am responsible for making sure that camp is always running in tip top shape! You'll often find me carrying tools and wearing a flannel. Sometimes the kids even mistake me for the legendary camp lumberjack, "Ole Peterson." My favorite thing about Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya is hearing the kids and guests laugh and play in the distance.

Jack - Outdoor Education Director

Time at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 1 Year

I have been working at the Greater Green Bay YMCA for 5 years. I started as a volunteer at one of our 21C after school programs in Green Bay and eventually worked my way up to become the director at that site! My first experience at U Nah Li Ya was for our Boys Night Out weekend, when we brought our 4th and 5th grade boys to camp to wrap up our boys club. I instantly knew that I wanted to work at camp and was a counselor the following summer.  My job as the OEE director is to assist groups in planning their trips to camp and to personalize their experience. My favorite part about camp is  watching kids have an amazing time while they’re unplugged and outdoors in the beautiful Northwoods. Hope to see you up here soon!

Lizzy - Summer Camp and Familiy Programs Director

Outdoor Education Staff

John S. - Outdoor Education Instructor

Time at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 4 Years

Hello!  I have been part of the Unie team since 2014, as an Adventure Trips counselor.  I fell in love with camp and decided that I wanted to call it home! Since then, I have become the summer Adventure Trips Director, as well as part of the Outdoor Environmental Education team.  I grew up loving Northeast Wisconsin, and I take pride in showing our visitors the beauty of the outdoors.  An organization is only as good as the people within it, and I am very proud to be part of the Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya team.  I have a background in public safety, but working at camp has been exponentially more rewarding.  We get to make a difference in peoples’ lives every day, and that’s why I love this job.

Casey - Outdoor Education Instructor

Time at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 10 Years

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… I began working for the Green Bay YMCA and have been part of the Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya family for most of that time. I have worked three seasons of summer camp and many seasons in our Outdoor Education program. I was lucky enough to come to camp with my classmates when I was in middle school and I love sharing the same camp magic that I experienced with our students who visit today. When I’m not at camp, you might find me working another YMCA program in Green Bay or participating in one of my MANY hobbies including magic, skateboarding, juggling, photography, videography, watching movies or carefully crafting clever puns. I hope to see you at Camp soon! May the Force be with you!

Peter - Outdoor Education Instructor

Time at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 1 Year

Hello all! I'm Peter and I am currently studying Early Childhood Education while working here at U-Nah-Li-Ya. I am from Hawaii, attended school in Florida, and most recently taught in Egypt. I love the Packers and teaching sailing. I also enjoy scuba diving, especially in the Red Sea. My favortie thing about Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya is the way our students light up when they try something new for the first time.

Kerry - Outdoor Education Instructor

Time at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 1 Year

I have recently transplanted back to my home in Wisconsin. I've spent the last 7 years teaching science and scuba diving in the Red Sea. I've been involved in science and teaching through my careers in the National Parks Service, Environmental lab, and school systems. I am excited to be back to my first love, teaching Environmental Education.

Jason - Outdoor Education Instructor

Time at U-Nah-Li-Ya: 1 Year

Hi campers!  I'm a wildlife biologist with an Associate, Bachelor and Master degrees in biology with a emphasis in ecology.  I’ve worked with interesting animals such as birds, sea turtles, insects, fish, and mammals in a lot of remote places around the world.  The cute little friend i'm holding is a seabird called a Least Auklet that lives in the Bering Sea, Alaska.  I really enjoy teaching classes at the camp, and telling stories about my adventures!
