FLAMBEAU RIVER TRIP

This is the ideal trip for beginning canoeists. Shorelines are fully wooded with big sections of wide river, perfect for a scenic float. Wildlife viewing and fishing opportunities abound. Campers will spend 2 nights and 3 days navigating approximately 30 miles of this big, majestic river. Campsites are common and well maintained. This trip is sure to ignite your teen's passion for outdoor adventures on Wisconsin’s waterways.

PAINT RIVER TRIP

Head up Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for the scenic river trip of a lifetime. This historic river offers our camp staff the unique opportunity to introduce your camper to wilderness experiences in remote settings. The Paint river has outstanding fishing opportunities for brook and rainbow trout. There are multiple forks of the river, giving the campers and staff the opportunity to hand craft a trip that perfectly fits the group. Like the Flambeau, this trip spends 2 nights and 3 days on trail and will cover approximately 30 miles of waterway.

 *NEW 2024* - BORDER BRULE RIVER TRIP (Ages 13-15)

There are two "Brule Rivers" in Wisconsin and this year we are exploring both!  This particular trip navigates the Brule River that runs west to east and creates the boarder between Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  This is a wonderful stretch of river with a solid steady current.  The river runs quietly through some of the most pristine wild country in the Midwest.  Here campers will encounter deer, eagles, beaver and have abundant opportunities to fish, notably for Brown and Brook Trout.  Numerous riffles and small Class 1 rapids make this a great river for novice paddlers.  Total distance is 46.3 miles of waterway, with 3 nights 4 days on trail.

 *Back for 2024* - Sylvania Wilderness Canoe Trip (Ages 12-14)

Heading 2 hours north from U-Nah-Li-Ya brings our campers to the pristine Sylvania Wilderness in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  This 18,327 acre wilderness offers campers a perfect introduction to our longer wilderness trips in the Boundary Waters.  With 34 lakes, dispersed through beautiful old growth forests, there are endless opportunities for exploration and discovery.   

Distance: Approximately 20.7 miles of waterway, 15 portages

 WHITEWATER RAFTING (Ages 12-14)

Simply put...this trip will blow your mind!  5 days of non-stop whitewater action on 4 distinct rivers in Wisconsin.  We revamped the entire schedule to offer even more opportunities to experience the thrill and challenge of swift water kayaking and rafting.  The week starts out with a short introduction to river kayaking with a journey down the Oconto river just outside of camp.  After some high ropes and ziplining the teens embark on a 13 mile float down the Wolf River.  They'll head through 9 distinct rapids ranging from class 1-2.  The next day they head to the Peshtigo River to run the "Roaring Rapids" section near Silver Cliff.  This 4.5 mile stretch of river takes the challenge to the next level.  They will pass through 6 unique rapids ranging from class 2-3.  Day 4 brings the group to the Menominee River for the famous "Piers Gorge" section near Niagara.  This section will be the most challenging and exciting section yet, in a short 3.8 miles they will take on 4 rapids ranging from class 2-4.  Finally, the group celebrates their accomplishment with a fun day back at camp tubing down "Bagley Rapids", a couple class 3 drops make this 1.3 mile section the best kept secret south of 64!    All of the white water rafting trips are professionally guided by third party river guides.

 *NEW 2024* - BOIS BRULE RIVER TRIP (Ages 14-16)

There are two "Brule Rivers" in Wisconsin and this year we are exploring both!  This particular trip navigates the Bois Brule River that runs south to north and empties into Lake Superior between Duluth and Ashland.  Known as "The River of Presidents", this famous stretch of river is one of the most popular canoeing destinations in Wisconsin.  Presidents Grant, Cleveland, Coolidge, Hoover and Eisenhower have all discovered why people travel to the Bois from all across the Midwest in pursuit of exciting rapids, pristine wilderness and exceptional fishing.  Another feature that appeals to so many canoeists is the extreme diversity of the river itself.  Starting with miles of peaceful meandering riffles the river transforms midway to be an almost continuous 8 mile stretch of whitewater (Mostly Class 1 and 2 rapids and a small section of Class 3 that can be portaged if needed) that offers unforgettable thrills and excitement. The last third of the river transforms once again into a placid waterway that allows each canoer a chance to enjoy the gorgeous scenery as they suddenly emerge on the shores of Lake Superior.

This is truly an exciting next step for experienced teen canoers and we recommend having completed at least one of the other river trips prior to signing up.  Comfort in water and a good swimming ability is also recommended.

 PICTURED ROCKS BACKPACKING TRIP

Sandstone cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, forest, and shoreline await you at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Hiking, camping, and sightseeing opportunities abound. The lakeshore hugs the Lake Superior shoreline for more than 40 miles. Lake Superior is the largest, coldest, and most pristine of all the Great Lakes.

PORCUPINE BACKPACKING & CLIMBING TRIP

Campers will get to experience the thrills of mountain terrain backpacking and climbing the Iron Mountain and Porcupine Mountain regions. Campers will spend 3 nights camping in the backcountry and hiking to some of Upper Michigan’s most beautiful rock climbing destinations. They will learn the safety fundamentals of backpacking and climbing facilitated by our trained staff on beginner/less technical climbing routes.
